When that first fall breeze hits the air, we all know it's time to break out all things pumpkin spice! And today we have a creamy hot chocolate recipe full of pumpkin flavor!
This amazing white hot chocolate recipe was actually shared with my by a friend who just happened to know how to make the most amazing cup of delicious, creamy pumpkin spice hot chocolate. She calls it her pumpkin pie hot chocolate.
This particular recipe uses white chocolate instead of the typical milk chocolate that other recipes call for.
And let me tell you, it combines perfectly with the warm spices in the pumpkin spice and the pumpkin flavor from the pumpkin puree.
If you love pumpkin recipes or hot chocolate as much as we do, this is for your.
I promise you, it's better than any store bought version you'll find.
Ingredients
For this fall hot chocolate recipe we'll use a delicious white chocolate base and add in the best pumpkin flavors.
Whole milk: The base of the hot chocolate
Heavy cream: Will add a creaminess to your drink
Sweetened condensed milk: This here is the secret ingredient to a sweet (but not too sweet) and rich hot cocoa drink!
Pure pumpkin puree: For pumpkin flavoring, I mean, what's a good pumpkin hot chocolate without the pumpkin. Make sure to get real pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling.
Pumpkin pie spice: The star of our show, with out this, it just wouldn't be pumpkin spice, would it.
White chocolate: To add that rich chocolate flavor to our hot chocolate. When choosing your white chocolate, make sure to go with a high quality brand. It will make a huge difference in the flavor of your drink in the end. The cheaper ones leave a waxy, tasteless after-feel. We used the Ghirardelli white chocolate. And it was delicious!
Salt: Just a pinch to help bring out all the delicious flavors of the pumpkin and spices
Optional toppings: And anything you might want to put on top of your hot coco, like whipped cream, mini marshmallows, ground cinnamon, cocoa powder.
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
For this recipe, we used a slow cooker. Making hot chocolate in a slow cooker is great, because it really allows all the flavors to meld together.
This will totally work on the stove top too though, just make sure to cook on low heat and reduce the cooking time.
To start, put the milk, cream and condensed milk into your slow cooker or pot.
Next, you're going to add in the pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice mix and whisk well until it's smooth and incorporated together.
Then grab your white chocolate bar and start chopping it up into small pieces.
They don't have to look pretty, just be small enough to melt easily.
Then add the white chocolate to the rest of the pumpkin mixture and your pinch of salt.
Now you can set the slow cooker to low and cook your pumpkin spice hot chocolate for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
Serve the hot chocolate with your favorite garnishes or drink as is. It's delicious, you'll love. I mean, who doesn't love hot chocolate??
Hint: Use high quality white chocolate. This can make a huge difference in the taste and texture of your hot chocolate.
This is one of those hot chocolate recipes you'll want to make every year!
Storage
You can store any leftover hot chocolate in an air tight container in the fridge for 3-4 days.
Top tip
Make sure to use high quality white chocolate! It makes all the difference in the taste of your hot chocolate.
