What You'll Love About This Recipe
- Easy Recipe: With simple layering and no intricate steps, it’s a stress-free recipe ideal for any cooking level.
- Comforting and Hearty: Perfect for those who love rich, satisfying meals that offer warmth and comfort with every bite.
- Versatile: Easily adaptable with various fillings or sauces to suit your taste preferences or dietary needs.
- Crowd Pleaser: A hit at gatherings, pleasing both adults and children with its familiar yet indulgent flavors.
Ingredients

Frozen Cheddar Pierogis: Opt for high-quality pierogis with a rich, cheesy filling. The better the quality, the more delicious your casserole will be.
Alfredo Sauce: Choose a creamy, flavorful Alfredo sauce, or consider making your own for an extra touch of homemade goodness.
Kielbasa Sausage: Select a well-seasoned kielbasa for that perfect smoky taste that complements the creamy components of the dish.
Scallions: Fresh scallions add a burst of color and a slight crunch, offering a fresh contrast to the rich, creamy textures.
Colby Jack Cheese: This cheese melts beautifully, providing a gooey, cheesy layer that pulls everything together. Freshly shredded cheese melts better than the pre-shredded kind. But both will work. You could also use shredded cheddar cheese instead.
Equipment
- 9x13 Baking Dish: Ideal size for layering the ingredients evenly, ensuring each portion is packed with flavor.
- Aluminum Foil: Used to cover the dish during baking, helping to lock in moisture and prevent the cheese from burning.
- Oven: Essential for baking the casserole to melty, bubbly perfection.
Instructions
Prep the Oven and Dish: Start by heating your oven to 350°F. Grab your 9x13 inch baking dish and give it a quick spray with some nonstick cooking spray. This helps everything come out easily after baking.
We used a glass baking dish, but any large baking dish will work.
Layer the Ingredients: Begin by spreading half of the frozen pierogis in the dish.

Drizzle them with half of the Alfredo sauce, then add half of the sliced kielbasa and half of the scallions.

Top it all off with a generous sprinkle of Colby Jack cheese.

Repeat these steps with the remaining ingredients, creating a second layer of deliciousness.
Bake the Casserole: Cover your dish with aluminum foil—remember to spray the side of the foil that will face the casserole to keep the cheese from sticking.
Bake covered for 20 minutes, then carefully remove the foil and let it bake for another 20-25 minutes. You’re looking for a golden-brown top and edges that are bubbly and irresistible.

Serving: Let it cool a bit before serving—this makes it easier to cut and ensures you won’t burn your mouth on all that melty cheese goodness.

And that's it. Your delicious pierogi casserole is ready to serve!
Top Tip
Preventing Cheese Stickiness: The greased foil is a game-changer, ensuring the melty, golden cheese top doesn’t stick and ruin your perfect casserole surface.
Substitutions
- Sausage Substitutions: Not a fan of kielbasa? No problem! You can use any precooked sausage you like. Try Italian sausage for a different flavor, or go with turkey sausage if you’re looking for a lighter option.
- Cheese Substitutions: If you’re not into Colby Jack, feel free to swap it out. Cheddar, mozzarella, or a Mexican cheese blend can all work well in this recipe. Just choose something that melts nicely.
Variations
- Spicy Pierogi Casserole: Add some heat with a layer of jalapeños or a spicy Alfredo sauce for those who love an extra kick.
- Vegetarian Option: Substitute the kielbasa sausage with sautéed mushrooms or roasted vegetables for a hearty, meat-free alternative.
- Bacon Lover’s Twist: Incorporate crispy, crumbled bacon for added texture and a smoky flavor that pairs wonderfully with the creamy, cheesy layers.
Storage Instructions
Have leftover casserole you need to store? Here are our top tips.
Fridge Storing Option: Keep the casserole in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 2-3 days. The flavors often meld and become even more delicious after a day.
Freezer Storing Option: For longer storage, freeze the casserole in airtight containers for up to a month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
Reheating: Warm in the oven at 350°F until heated through. If it's frozen, allow extra time, covering with foil to prevent over-browning. For individual servings, a microwave can be used, heating in intervals until just hot.
