Ingredients
Use a clear shot of the ingredients for this recipe, prepped, and labeled if necessary. Insert the ingredients into the list below, omitting quantities.
In this recipe, there are two main stars of the show. Asparagus and bacon!
Asparagus: You'll need fresh asparagus with the woody bases trimmed off. You can trim them with a knife or snap off the ends with your hands.
Bacon: Use your favorite bacon here. I prefer bacon that's not too thickly cut, so that it'll bake evenly and get crispy without over cooking the asparagus.
You'll also need
- Olive oil
- Black crushed pepper
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
Start by washing and trimming your asparagus with a sharp knife or by snapping the woody ends off with your hands.
Prep a baking tray by spraying it lightly with cooking oil.
Spread out your asparagus in an even layer over your baking tray.
Then sprinkle with a little drizzle of olive oil, and your black pepper, garlic powder and onion powder.
Use your hands to make sure all the asparagus is well coated with the oil and seasonings.
If your asparagus is thin, divide it into 8 bundles. Wrap each bundle with a slice of bacon starting at the base and working your way up the bundle.
If you're asparagus is very thick, you may want to wrap your asparagus spears individually.
Line the bacon wrapped asparagus onto a baking tray and get ready to bake.
Hint: You'll want to flip your bacon wrapped asparagus halfway through baking for an even crispness.
Variations
This recipe is just the base for making bacon wrapped asparagus. But there are tons of ways to get creative and add variations to create a unique recipe.
Balsamic Glazed Bacon Wrapped Asparagus: After baking spread a glaze onto the bacon area of your wrapped asparagus.
Barbecue Spiced Bacon Wrapped Asparagus: Add a spicy BBQ sauce to your asparagus bundles, or put it on the side as a dip option.
Bacon Wrapped Asparagus with Garlic & Parmesan: Add freshly minced garlic and freshly grated parmesan cheese before baking.
Honey Sriracha Bacon Wrapped Asparagus: Pour a Honey sriracha sauce over the baked asparagus for a delicious sweet and spicy variation.
Alternate Ways to Cook Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
My go to way to cook the bacon wrapped asparagus is baking on a baking sheet in the oven. It's a quick and easy, hands free way to cook it.
But you could also grill the asparagus bundles on a hot grill until the asparagus is tender and the bacon is crispy.
You could pan-fry the bacon wrapped asparagus bundles as well in a pan over medium heat. However, this gets a little tricky as there's usually a lot of flying grease and oil popping from the water leaving the asparagus and interacting with the hot oil.
Prepping Ahead of Time
If you are planning on making these bacon wrapped asparagus as an appetizer for a party, this is a great prep ahead of time dish.
Just wrap up all of your asparagus and lay it out on the sheet pan, (before baking.)
Cover the top with saran wrap and place in the fridge until half an hour before you're ready to bake. Then pull them from the fridge and pop them into your preheated oven.
Top tip
If you want super crispy bacon, you can bake it on an oven safe wire rack that sits on top of your sheet pan. This will allow additional airflow that makes for super crispy bacon.

If you have an oven safe wire rack, you can place the rack over the pan and bake the wrapped asparagus straight on the wire rack. This will allow the bottom to crisp up more, creating crispier bacon.
